Did you cringe when reading that? I do every time. I’ve had hard drives fail and thankfully I’ve always had multiple sources of backups, but my neighbor didn’t. She knows my husband is an IT guy (if you haven’t seen it on Netflix the IT Crowd is pretty funny and Steve, my husband, always says have you tried turning if on and off again) and asked him about recovering her data from her external hard drive that failed. To attempt to get it off and that’s not even a guarantee that it’s recoverable it will be $700. She told me that people advised her not to print because your house could burn down and she’d lose all the images. It’s a lot less likely that your house will burn down than a piece of technology will fail! My heart broke a little when she told me that the last images of her mother were on there.
